Songs of the Civil Rights Movement ||

Our nation’s civil rights movements have an underlying pulse of music. Artists such as Sam Cooke, Stevie Wonder, Mavis Staples, Public Enemy, Lauryn Hill, and Kendrick Lamar have shaped the sonic landscape through which change would come. Join Freedom Arts & Education Center and the Missouri History Museum on Wednesday April 11 at 7pm for “Songs of the Civil Rights Movement.” In a reprisal of last summer's performance, the musicians of Freedom Arts & Education Center and Far Fetched will share the stories and sounds of the artists and songs that sprang forth from the struggle and progress of African Americans. Come find out how music has been used to encourage and empower millions of people as some of St. Louis’ best musical artists take you on a journey through America’s continuing struggle towards freedom and justice for all.
