Throughout the African-American experience, Christmas celebrations have been engaging family events in which everyone could participate. From creating handmade garland and ornaments to baking cookies, singing, dancing, storytelling, and exchanging gifts, the holiday spirit filled the home and created memories and traditions for generations to enjoy.

Costumed docents, holiday cheer, and tasty treats fill the air at our "Spirited Holiday Past" and Trim-A-Tree celebration on December 1. Bring an Afrocentric ornament (or create your own); share your family tradition story, photograph, or keepsake; dress in period attire; and join us for a day filled with family-friendly activities—reenactments, storytelling, crafts, and more—steeped in a fusion of West African and European cultural holiday traditions.

Admission: One child (12 years and under) admitted free with each paid adult admission of $7.50. Additional children $3.75 each. May not be used with Groupon, group discounts, or other promotions. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

The Griot joins other museums and historic sites across the St. Louis region in celebrating "A Spirited Holiday Past." To learn about the day's events and festivities at other locations, visit https://www.historicsaintlouis.org/
